Where Sh'abi meets Mahragan Workshop and Show

Informative and Dance Workshop by Amina Goodyear and Sherifa Zuhur (Samrah)

Sunday 1-5 pm September 30, 2018

12-1 pm - Video clips on the beginnings of mahragan.

1-2 pm - Short history and how music and dance evolved including cultural references.

2-3 pm - Video and music examples with narration showing evolution from beginning of sh'abi to mahragan (late 1960's to present)

3-4 pm - simple sh'abi choreography to perform later at Al Masri - if you wish

4-5 pm - simple mahragan choreography to perform later at Al Masri - if you wish

There will be 5-10 minute breaks when needed or requested.

Optional: Al Masri show - (4031 Balboa St. SF) Open to the public. Come join the fun as a spectator (reservations recommended (415) 876-2300)  or dancer. (email me if you want to perform aminajune@aol.com)

Al Masri show is after the workshop from 7:30-10:30. Featuring lots of fun dances and GREAT sh'abi and mahragan music. From 1970's vintage pieces to the latest from 2018.
